The step is made exactly as pictured. It's smooth as butter and extremely sturdy. It's just the right height for getting in a tall bed. I recently added a mattress topper to my bed and found that extra 2 inches made it kinda hard to get in bed. I was using the wall with my foot. :) This step is perfect. It can slide under the bed with just your big toe.. and back out at night when needed. The stain is semitransparent so you can still see the beautiful wood grain in the wood. I am so happy with my purchase.
